Internships

Art Therapy Studio is the oldest creative arts therapy program of its kind in the country. Our mission is to enhance individuals’ quality of life through art therapy. We use art-making led by credentialed art therapists to promote healing and wellness.

Please be aware that at this time we can only accept volunteers and interns 18 years of age and older, no exceptions. We are only able to take on interns and volunteers who currently reside in Northeast Ohio. We typically only accept interns who are enrolled in an AATA approved  undergraduate or graduate art therapy program.

Unpaid Art Therapy Clinical and Internship Opportunities

Art Therapy Studio is looking for individuals wanting to make a difference in the community, while also gaining the necessary experience to satisfy course requirements. Interns and Clinical students will gain practice in a variety of settings and roles at our Fairhill Studio and at our Community Partner sites. Our community based art therapy allows us to meet our client-artists where they are and help them use art as a tool to set and accomplish goals.

We offer opportunities for students seeking to satisfy requirements for Site Visits, Clinical I, Undergraduate and Clinical II, and Internship I/II courses.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR APPLICANTS WHO ARE:

  • Friendly and helpful
  • Comfortable interacting with people of varying abilities and backgrounds
  • Enrolled in an Art Therapy Program
  • Able to work well with others and/or independently with little to no supervision
  • Able to perform web-based research
  • Skillful with basic computer functions
  • Willing to learn

Students interested in completing an internship with Art Therapy Studio are required to attend an Information Session before applying. These sessions provide an overview of our programs, internship opportunities, expectations, and application process, while also allowing prospective interns to learn more about our mission and services.

Information Sessions may also be used to satisfy university Site Visit course requirements when applicable.

To register for an upcoming Information Session, please complete this form.

Mickie McGraw Supervision Fellowship

Art Therapy Studio has always welcomed people from all walks of life. While our clients reflect a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, the professional field of art therapy has historically lacked that same level of representation. In honor of Mickie McGraw’s legacy, we created the Mickie McGraw Fellowship to help support and prepare early-career art therapists entering the profession.

The Mickie McGraw Fellowship provides clinical supervision for individuals with ATR-Provisional (ATR-P) status who are working toward their full ATR credential. Fellows receive 100 hours of supervision from experienced, credentialed art therapists and gain exposure to clinical practices aligned with Art Therapy Studio’s mission and standards of care.

Through this fellowship, we continue to carry forward Mickie’s dedication to mentorship, accessibility, and the development of strong, capable professionals in the field of art therapy.
